Dr.
Gary L. Patton has been the Director of the Department of Spiritual
Care, Counseling, and Mission at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington,
West Virginia since 1990. His work includes counseling with patients
and staff along with managing the counseling and spiritual care
programs of the medical center. He has also worked extensively in
the field of ethics and counselor supervision. He is an adjunct
faculty member in the Counseling Program at Marshall University
where he has taught courses in:
- Stress Management
- Crisis Counseling
- Human Development
- Counseling

Counseling
He has done
extensive work in the fields of grief therapy and counseling with
law enforcement officers.
He completed
a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling from Ohio University
and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University.
He also completed chaplaincy training at the Medical College of
Ohio.
He is a licensed
counselor and is certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors
and the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Dr. Patton holds
memberships in the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society, the Golden Key
International Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
He has given
lectures in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He has been the
narrator on video productions for St. Mary's Medical Center. One
of these productions won a national Telly Award.
Dr. Patton's
writings have been published in national journals and on the Internet.
